Although damp and cool on Sunday it was a solid turnout of interested people for the annual 'Come and Explore' afternoon at the Mt Leura and Mt Sugarloaf Reserves. The activity venue at the base of Mt Leura looked amazing with all the Petyan Yarn installations by Nicky, a very interesting and informative cultural walk through the Reserves with Brett Clarke and all other activities ran as planned. The Management Committee thanks everyone who attended and joined the activities as well as those who volunteered to help run the afternoon.
If you have not yet had a chance to visit the Reserves and look at the Petyan Yarn display at the base of Mt Leura please be sure to get along and enjoy the colourful collection that local artist Nicky Schonkala has created.

Hi everyone.... this is a brief report on yesterday's very successful NAIDOC Week celebration and recognition event conducted by the Mt Leura and Mt Sugarloaf Management Committee at the base of Mt Leura on Djargurd wurrung country.
It was great to see lots of our FoML members there, as well as many members of the general community, supporting this annual event. At least 50 people were in attendance .
Brett Clarke, a proud Kirrae Wurrung man, conducted the Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony with support from his family. During his talk to the attendees Brett congratulated the Management Committee on their successful healing of country across the Reserves and stressed how culurally important this has been.
The attendees were also privileged to see the unveiling of a beautiful piece of indigenous artwork depicting the 6 Aboriginal seasons. The artists are Brett and his mother. The Management Committee commissioned the artwork and plans to reproduce the Seasonal Calendar as a major feature attached to the Volcanic Education Centre in the near future.
A rew photos from the day are attached.

Hello to all our great members and supporters,

I have attached a flyer with information about the upcoming ‘Come and Explore’ program. It is a great program run by the Management Committee jointly with our 'Friends of' group and will happen on Sunday May 19th from 1.00pm to 3.30pm.

Activities include indigenous basket weaving with Sandra Aitkin and sessions on Indigenous Tools and Indigenous Foods run by Brett Clarke. A guided walk through the Reserves will also be offered.

Please note the session start and finish times as shown on the flyer and also that numbers are limited to 20 for each of the activities - so please book if you can to ensure your involvement. Hopefully the weather remains fine and we see lots of you on the 19th. Afternoon tea is provided.

Finally, we do need help setting up --- so please come at 11.00am to the Lower Shelter area at the base of Mt Leura if you can and help us. It will be very much appreciated.

Hi everyone .... it's lovely to report on yet another brilliant '4 Peaks Challenge '. With some 85 participants it was one of our biggest. John, once again, ensured it was very well promoted and ran like clockwork on Sunday.
A huge thanks for all those who attended and enjoyed some of what our fabulous volcanic landscape has to offer. A big thanks also to those FoML members who helped on Sunday; to the Mt Elephant and Mt Noorat Committees for their support; the coffee van and finally the Noorat Hotel for opening early.
